<< review queue entry 71003 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> "heel (part of a foot)" is in LA and M. "/heel (of a sock)" is in various dicts, including LA and M. ------------------------------ Dicts also say "heel (of a shoe)", however I believe this is incorrect. I say: the heel of a shoe is called 鞋跟, not 后跟. The heel of a shoe is on the *bottom* of a shoe, as shown in the following picture: https://i0.wp.com/tdsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Image-Designer-Studio-Store.jpg That picture also shows the "counter" of a shoe, which is at the *back* of a shoe, *above* the heel. And I believe 后跟 refers to the counter. Here is my evidence: 1) Article titled 踩鞋后跟是怎么流行的,这样的穿法你是否接受? The pics show people wearing shoes, squashing down the counters of their shoes. https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/43547912 Here's a definition of "counter": "The piece of a shoe or a boot around the heel of the foot (above the heel of the shoe/boot)" https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/counter That describes the part of the shoe that these people are squashing down. Here's another image that shows the counter of a shoe: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1288/8431/files/image4.png?v=1547678708 2) Shoe diagram with an arrow labeled in both English and Chinese: "counter 鞋后跟" http://www.ishangstudy.com/Shared/upload/image/2016/01/13/201601131347161059486994.png Shoe pic with the 后跟 labeled.
