We explain things when they present a linguistic difficulty; not when they are only one Wikipedia away. 2) Titles of poems, movies, books and so on — that's a big area that we haven't been attempting to get into, and I don't think we should. We don't have the resources to be encyclopedic. 3) I want to restrict (but not eliminate) the addition of encyclopedic terms, especially if they are not particularly related to China. Apps like Kindle (and Pleco, when v4.0 is released) include Wikipedia as one of their references. In Kindle, if you look up a term that isn't in a dictionary, Kindle then consults Wikipedia and displays the results. We don't want to spend much time documenting terms that are covered better by Wikipedia. |
