<< review queue entry 68251 - submitted by 'longjiang' >> 王堙同志，地青委书记，四○年在易县正召开青年工作会议时，被敌机炸死。 ----------------------------- Editor: 1) As a verb, "bomb" almost always means "drop bombs from an aircraft" and I don't think "dropping" is part of the meaning of 炸. 炸死 means "kill with an explosion; die in an explosion" and the explosion could be caused by bombing, as in your example, or not, as in the following example: 其中包括表演「逃脫術」凸槌，結果繩結打不開而被燒死、淹死或炸死的；... "including escapologists who ended up drowning, burning, or being blown up; ..." One dictionary defines 炸 as follows: 用炸藥、炸彈摧毀。 I would say that's "to blow up (using explosives)", not specifically "to bomb". To specify blowing up with a bomb, I think you need to add an extra character or two, as in 轟炸 or 投炸彈. 2) /(fig.) to fly into a rage/ 「他聽見這話，登時炸了。」 |
