- i suppose we don't need to add "school door"
- and i'd leave out no. 2 gloss from LA for now

LA:

For example, in elementary schools, art and music will be combined into a study field called "arts," which will also include performing arts. In junior high school, history, geography and civics will be grouped together as "social studies," which will also cover some economics and law; while biology, physics, chemistry and earth science will be merged in "science," together with new branches of knowledge such as ecology and information technology.

Each field of study has central, core knowledge, and a broader area of peripherally-related knowledge. As research in each field continues, gradually that peripheral area expands, and will at some point overlap with other fields. The core, too, will shift through research, and when the core areas of two fields intersect, a new field is born.
Diff:
# + 學門 学门 [xue2 men2] /(Tw) branch of learning/subject/
+ 學門 学门 [xue2 men2] /(Tw) field of knowledge/academic discipline/
