Nobody else says it means "extremely rich".
I'm dubious that it can mean "very expensive" either.

台灣人的彈性很大,重金可以利誘;
People in Taiwan are very flexible, and they respond to money incentives.

屠夫出身的直系軍閥曹錕,雖因重金賄選當上大總統,卻也落了個千古罵名。
Warlord Cao Kun, who started life as a butcher, used silver to buy the presidency. But he ended up as an object of scorn.

所以即使在台灣走紅後有廠商重金請她拍水餃廣告進軍大陸市場,
And while her current celebrity in Taiwan has brought in some interesting offers (one from a frozen shuijiao producer willing to pay big bucks if she'll appear in the firm's commercials as it breaks into the mainland market) she continues to reserve her options for the time being.

施恩立即用重金上下打點,
Shi En promptly set about bribing officials up and down the chain of command

he spared no expense to buy a top-of-the line sound system
不惜重金購買一流的進口音響,

問:各國都已投入重金發展奈米科技,請問我們的優勢何在?
Q: Several countries are already investing massive sums in developing nanotechnology. Where do Taiwan's strengths lie?
Diff:
- 重金 重金 [zhong4 jin1] /huge money/extremely rich/very expensive/
+ 重金 重金 [zhong4 jin1] /large sum of money/
