1) 水培
"grow plants in water" sounds to me like growing aquatic plants like water lilies in a pond. That's not what K and LAC are saying about 水培.

2) 水培法 "water culture"?
I'm not familiar with that term. It's not in Merriam-Webster or Wikipedia. The Oxford definition is:
"The growing of plants in water, (in later use) especially in an artificial system with or (usually) without a solid substrate."
I'm not sure what that is. Is it hydroponics? Are you guys familiar with "water culture"?
Anyway, 水培法 looks like hydroponics here:

Diff:
- 水培 水培 [shui3 pei2] /to grow plants in water/
+ 水培 水培 [shui3 pei2] /to grow plants hydroponically/
- 水培法 水培法 [shui3 pei2 fa3] /water culture/hydroponics/
+ 水培法 水培法 [shui3 pei2 fa3] /hydroponics/
