original research, not necessarily true
---------------------------------

Editor: On the one hand, we have half a dozen or so dictionaries that say it's a loanword from Sanskrit यक्ष (yakṣa).
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E0%A4%AF%E0%A4%95%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%B7

e.g. https://www.moedict.tw/%E5%A4%9C%E5%8F%89

On the other hand, we have an anonymous contributor's assurance that they have done some original research that casts doubt on that notion, but we have no details of that research.

Well, I'm going to stick with 梵語yakṣa的音譯 for now.
Diff:
# - 夜叉 夜叉 [ye4 cha1] /yaksha (malevolent spirit) (loanword)/(fig.) ferocious-looking person/
# + 夜叉 夜叉 [ye4 cha1] /yaksha (malevolent spirit)/(fig.) ferocious-looking person/
