"as a child" can sometimes work as a *translation* but I don't think it's correct as a definition.

I don't think 从小 can be used in that way. LA, for example, says it means 自幼年起。

("as a child" appeared as one of the glosses in ACE (1978) and has been copied into many other dicts since then.)

+ 從小 从小 [cong2 xiao3] /from childhood/from a young age/
