For one thing, it usually means "die". Also, it has limited usage. In my experience, people usually say food has "gone off" rather than "perished". Merriam-Webster says that in that sense, it's "chiefly British" usage. We aim primarily for US English spelling and usage. 若聞到有變質的發酸氣味，或有點潮濕、發霉就應立刻丟棄。 "If it starts smelling like it's gone bad, or if it seems a bit damp or moldy, throw it away immediately." I think "metamorphosis" is wrong. That would be 變態. Example: 經歷高溫高壓的鍛造、變質，... a combination of high temperature and pressure turned it into metamorphic rock |
