喊山 Entry on Baidu Baike mentions:
在东北林区,号子最单纯高亢的是喊山。采伐工每逢伐倒一棵大树之前,都要喊山。根据大树生长的态势,确定树倒方向,发出顺山倒,横山倒或仰山倒的呼唤。“顺山倒了”———树根锯断以后,一棵参天大树,带起一阵风啸,扑嗵一声倒下了。地动山摇,树叶乱飞。余音在山谷中久久回荡着。伐木工说,喊山是前辈传下来的,在过去的传说中,喊山是向山神爷打招呼,树是山神爷的臣民,人们把它带走了,应该告诉一声。喊山一声延续下来,今天把它定为安全措施,树倒之前喊山是让人们躲开,避免出事故。
