"mid-year" communicates more to me strictly "in the middle of a year", as opposed to "in the midst of the year", eg. mid-year meetings occur around June/July, not March or September.

I think "within a year" much more communicates the generality of the term.

Editor: 年中考 for instance would be a mid-year exam, as opposed to 年底考.
"2015 年中" : during the year 2015
"2015 年年中": around the middle of 2015

it's all a construct really, shouldn't be in dicts

# + 年中 年中 [nian2 zhong1] /within (a) year, in the midst of (a) year, for (a) year/
