Editor: Richard, great work on providing so much context. Fore reference, we have MOE's『不敢挑釁或對抗』. An example I saw would be “我们副局长都惹不起他，你让我们怎么管！” ("Our vice bureau chief won't even dare do anything to provoke him. How would you have us deal with it then!?") Or there's also MOE's example: 「他的個性火爆，誰都惹不起他。」 I would even so so far as to say that "惹不起，(還)躲不起" is a phrase worthy of adding to CEDICT. Maybe meaning "insufferable but unavoidable". |
