<< review queue entry 32807 - submitted by 'lok' >> Name of a position in late Qing Dynasty in Chaozhou, Guangdong, late 1800's Editor: was used from Ming onwards; these officials were known to the westerners as "taotai" and appear as such in many English writings. There were taotai's in Shanghai and pbly other places, so it's not restricted to Guangdong. They were at a level intermediate between province and prefecture. |
