Comment: M:比喻貪心不足。

From imandarinpod.com
『一般來說,鍋裡的飯菜比較多,碗裡的飯菜比較少。吃飯時總是先吃碗裡的,吃完了碗裡的再吃鍋裡的。可是,如果碗裡的飯菜還沒吃完就想吃鍋裡的飯菜 … 這個人一定很談心、不知足。』

I can't decide if we are doing these with or without the comma in the middle. For example we have an entries for 江山易改... both with AND without the comma.

Editor: After some discussion with other editors, this entry was determined to be not fully substantiated. If desired, please resubmit with more compelling evidence for the definition given.

Examples of compelling evidence include links to video, audio, or news articles showing use of the word in context. In the case of video/audio please note the time in the stream when the word is used in your comments. Text coming from blogs and Q&A sites will be subject to more stringent review. Excerpts from books or periodicals are also welcome, but please include a brief citation.

Examples of non-compelling evidence include but are certainly not limited to: second-hand oral confirmation by friends/family, claims that the word was used in an unnamed TV show or movie, and/or anecdotal claims that the word is used "all the time".

Editor: Richard, great work on providing so much context.

Fore reference, we have MOE's『不敢挑釁或對抗』. An example I saw would be “我们副局长都惹不起他,你让我们怎么管!” ("Our vice bureau chief won't even dare do anything to provoke him. How would you have us deal with it then!?")

Or there's also MOE's example: 「他的個性火爆,誰都惹不起他。」

I would even so so far as to say that "惹不起,(還)躲不起" is a phrase worthy of adding to CEDICT. Maybe meaning "insufferable but unavoidable".

Unless there is a particular reason to say "spoiled male child" rather than "spoiled boy", I think "spoiled boy" is a more
natural, idiomatic expression. You wouldn't say "He's such a spoiled male child!"

I wonder whether we can add "pampered only child"?

It seems quite common for 独生子女 (only children, both boys and girls) to be referred to as 小皇帝.

e.g. 现在中国大部分家庭中,父母和祖父母都侍候一个小皇帝-家中的独生子女。

I suppose "good or bad" & "good and bad" could be collapsed into "good, bad".

英国人和法国人见此情景便问那老美:你既然身上藏着武器,当初为什么不开枪,要乖乖做人家的俘虏?
Somehow, the Jukuu translation doesn't seem quite right ~
"The English and the French sees this scene then to ask that is old beautifully: You since on the body are
hiding the weapon, why initially didn't open fire, wants the captive which the little darling was others?"

J ~ 可是一到门口送客的时候,我这个老美就张口结舌不知说什么好了。

I don't think 掠食 means "raptor" though a "raptor" may be one kind of 掠食者.

"hunting for food" is a bit off too, because it suggests that it's humans doing the hunting, rather than what is
described in MoE's definition ~
以捕食他種生物而藉以生存的動物,稱為該生物的「掠食者」。

J examples ~
The fish transform from pests to predators ...
... 这些鱼转变成了可怕的掠食着。
(I presume that 着 is meant to be a 者)

prey on ~
They preyed on a wide variety of invertebrates and fish and were probably not fussy about which ones.
牠们掠食各种不同的无脊椎动物及鱼类,食性可能相当广。

predation ~
The early humans mostly died of predation, ...
早期的人类大多死于掠食,...
(here, it's actually the humans that are the prey, not the hunters)

predatory (attributive) ~
They nurture their relatively rare offspring with a large investment of parental care— milk, shared food and water,
and protection from predators.

相反,针对那些为了出手救助银行而导致主权债务急增的部份欧盟成员国而言,由於这些国家与其他欧盟成员国,特别是与德国之间在债券收益率差价和信贷违约掉期方面的差异愈来愈大,使到这些国家逐渐浮现信心危机。

松山湖的环境真的挺不错的,绿树成荫,蓝天碧湖,空气清新,不愧是东莞的生态之地。

大道两旁绿树成荫

Editor: The phrase doesn't mean "tree-lined" necessarily, but it is used often enough in conjunction with describing roads that are surrounded by "shade-giving foliage" that the second definition is indeed warranted.

We yesterday changed 污蔑 to 污衊 on the grounds that MoE only had the
latter. The same is true of 誣蔑/誣衊.
On the other hand, even MoE includes 誣蔑 as a synonym (in the entry for
汙衊) and 誣蔑 also gets a lot of g hits, so I have suggested keeping both
entries, making both variants and clarifying that they are verbs.

Editor: Changes were already made in a previous entry.
