Editor: Not sure what you mean by "easier to read without doing a

Taiwan itself -- e.g.

This is 汗 as in 可汗, which you have.
http://dict.revised.moe.edu.tw, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genghis_Khan
and Google translate give this pronunciation

http://zidian.teachercn.com/han/Word_5219.html

Alternatively, if you add the second reading to 汗, you could delete this
entry and replace it with one for 成吉思
---------------------------------------------------
Editor:
You can't trust Wp on orthography. They have both Chéng Jí Sī Hán and Chéngjísī Hán in the same article.

ABC regards 成吉思汗 as a single-word name ~ "Chéngjísīhán (1162-1227) n. Genghis Khan"

After checking various sources, I surmise that 汗[han2] is not a word, but rather a character used in words
like 汗国, 可汗 and 成吉思汗.

可汗 is a loanword, "an originally Altaic and subsequently Central Asian title for a sovereign or military ruler,
widely used by medieval nomadic Turko-Mongol tribes living to the north of China" [Wikipedia] and its
component characters were adopted for transliteration. Because 汗[han2] does not have other senses
("sweat" is 汗[han4], etc.) it can be said to have the meaning "khan", but that does not mean it can be used
as a word on its own.

zh.wp article for 聖座 is about the Holy See
http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%81%96%E5%BA%A7

Editor: Wp says
聖座(英語:Holy See)不同於梵蒂岡城國(英語:Vatican City State),後者遲至1929年
方才出現,而聖座的歷史可遠溯至基督教發展早期。各國大使不是被梵蒂岡城國而是被「聖
座」所接受;聖座向各國和國際組織派出的使節也都是代表聖座而非所謂梵蒂岡城國。

so it seems to me we should leave "Holy See" out of this entry.

I don't think we have been calling place names "loanwords" up to now.
Is this a special case?

By the way...

"Where does the word "Vatican" come from and what does it mean?

"The word derives from the Latin vates, which means "tellers of the future." This name was the
name given to a hillside on the west bank of the Tiber River in Rome because daily lineups of
fortunetellers used to hawk their "wares" there to passersby on the street. In the fourteenth
century, when the papacy was returned to Rome from Avignon (France), the present-day
Vatican became the residence of the popes, and the word came to refer to the enclave in the
middle of Rome that had become the seat of the Roman Catholic Church."

delete as construct. If kept, needs a "to" because it's a verb

Editor: "not to dare to"?? Hmmm ... I think I'd prefer "dare not". Well, anyway it *is* a construct.

The history of this term in CC-CEDICT is one of permutation, followed by annihilation ;-)

pre-2007 -- to not dare
July 2008 -- not to dare
Aug 2008 -- not dare to
July 2011 -- (null)

not sure about the D

Editor: To give [Xi1 Dian3] as the pinyin would be to say that 西點 is two words, and that 點 is the
second word. But the "Point" in West Point originally had the meaning 地點 or 地方, I surmise.
(Looking at the map, I see it is unlikely to be the 岬 sense of "point".) It seems to me to make
more sense to regard 西點 as a *single* word coined by directly translating "west point" word-by-
word, but without regard to the original sense of "point".

I'm not sure about my reasoning, and it is not a very important matter, but ABC agrees with my
conclusion anyway: "西点[-點] Xīdiǎn n. 〈loan〉 West Point (U.S.A)"
