人类科技、医疗和文明发展到今天,在救治老年人这件事上,难道要退化到依赖社会达尔文主义的“物竞天择”吗?结合当下美国政府正急切推动复工,那番话的用意和折射出的逻辑,让人不寒而栗。

Editor: A proposal for a word not found in any other dictionary needs to be supported with some evidence.

If 片片面包 means "sliced bread" why are there virtually no results for "买片片面包" or "没有片片面包"?

And yet it's easy to Google up examples for "买切片面包" and "没有切片面包".
E.g.
1) 请问面包屑哪里有得卖? 如果不嫌麻烦可以自己做。方法是:买切片面包,用微波炉稍烤...
2) 可是如果没有切片面包,你就需要找到面包刀和叉子,费力地从长棍面包上切下三片面包。

With the verbatim setting, Google finds "about 5,310 results" for "买切片面包" but only one result for "买片片面包".

1) BLUE-COLLAR WORKER

LA @ 黑手 ~ {臺} 從事機械修理的技術人員。

自台南陽明工商汽修科畢業的王亞梵,退伍後,曾在台南工廠作黑手,
A graduate from the auto maintenance program at Yang Ming Vocational High School in Tainan, after finishing his military service Lekal worked for a time as a mechanic in Tainan,

只要提升技術,黑手就能轉型為綠領。
manual laborers can become green-collar workers by simply upgrading their skills.

像專營汽車車燈產銷業務的龍鋒企業,過去是一般人眼中的「黑手」產業,但這家公司特別專攻改裝車及高級車的「補修件」車燈領域,
Take for example Eagle Eyes, which specializes in the manufacture and sale of automobile headlights. This was always considered a "greasy hands" industry in the past, but this firm has gone after the specialized markets for customized vehicles and replacement parts for high-end cars.

再說,過去小資本創業容易,不管做黑手的、作業務的,目標都是攢點錢後自己出師開店去,
Furthermore, in the past it was easy to start a business with little capital, and both blue and white collar workers would aim to set up on their own once they had saved some money.

2) HIDDEN HAND

LA @ 黑手 ~ 借指暗中從事陰謀活動或在幕後指揮、操縱陰謀活動的人或勢力。

首先這個網址設在美國,雖然網站內容以中文刊出,幕後黑手有可能是台灣或其他地區境內的華人,
First, the site itself was set up in the United States, and although the site's content was written in Chinese, the perpetrators behind the site [a website trafficking illicit guns] could be in Taiwan or might very well be ethnic Chinese living in another country.

因為除了政治黑手以更精緻的「置入性行銷」包裝介入外,
This is not only because of the shadow hand of politicians who know how to package things and do "inserted marketing" masquerading as news,

Six months later Humphrey was gone, amid much newspaper speculation that new occupant Tony Blair's wife Cherie was behind the move.
新首相入主唐宁街六个月后,汉弗莱便失踪了,这引起英国媒体的诸多猜测,很多人认为新任首相布莱尔的妻子切丽是汉弗莱失踪的“幕后黑手”。

The painting had just been stolen in real life and the joke for viewers was that Dr No had been behind the heist all along.
然而在现实生活中,确实有名画被盗。引人发笑的是,影片中诺博士一直是盗窃的幕后黑手。

<QUOTE>
China's allegations of U.S. "black hands" fomenting unrest in Hong Kong have been all over the news during the last few days.

[...] There is, however, an alternative theory for the current usage in Hong Kong based in puppetry, such as Japanese Bunraku (文楽), where the puppeteers are dressed entirely in black and manipulate large, colorfully garbed puppets which they hold with their black gloved hands. [...] The puppets appear to be moving on their own, but in fact are completely controlled by the invisible puppeteer.

Thus my second surmise was that, by "black hand", the CCP / PRC mean "stealthy manipulator who remains totally out of view".

Editor:
You are proposing to remove the definition from the entry for 公知.
That means if a user looks up 公知, they would need to do another lookup (for 公共知识分子) to find a definition.
I don't think that's a good idea, especially since users are much more likely to search for 公知 than 公共知识分子 (since 公知 is a more common term).

----------------------------------

Editor:
1) Missing a comma in the pinyin (between ru4 & you4).

2) It does exist in Mandarin (see example below) but seems to be quite rare.
E.g. a google search for ["左耳入,右耳出" site:.cn] gives only "about 1,270 results".
A Wiktionary editor commented on the history page of your reference webpage:
"can be Mandarin too (albeit rare)"

3) My example:

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/吃土
-------------------------------

Editor:
If someone runs out of money because they overspent on consumer goods, I don't think you say they are "very poor".
And it really does mean "eat dirt instead of food" – but as a joke.

"I spent too much money shopping online this month. It seems that I will have to live on dirt next month."
这个月网购花了好多钱啊。看来下个月只有吃土了。
https://zhidao.baidu.com/question/814377646775324812.html

“吃土”源于2015双十一购物狂欢节,网友们在购物的过程中因花销超预算,穷到下个月只能“吃土”。事实证明,该词适用于绝大部分网友。 [...] 被网友用于自黑。
http://www.cac.gov.cn/2016-12/22/c_1120167559.htm

網路用語,字面意思指因缺乏金錢而不得不吃土度日,比喻在大量消費之後經濟窘迫。
