Editor: Thanks, but I would ask you not to put in submissions of this type. We already have a to-do list consisting of all 45,000+ definitions that need to be reviewed for possible reformatting with semicolons. So when you contribute submissions of this type to us, it's just duplicating what we already have on our to-do list.

Processing a submission for a long, complicated definition like this involves more than just glancing over it and clicking a button to accept it. For example,
- Some senses may need to be labeled as "(bound form)".
- Some senses may be missing.
- Each word of the definition needs to be checked — e.g., does 下 really mean "later", or was that a typo for "latter" (i.e. the same as the other gloss "second (of two parts)")? I don't think you can use 下 in the same way as 后来 or 之后, can you?
... and so on.
Diff:

"A single, large, upper petal is known as the banner (also vexillum or standard petal). The semi-cylindrical base of the banner embraces and compresses two equal and smaller lateral wings (or alae). --------------------------------

Editor: The first Wikipedia reference says that 大男子主義 is the belief that men are superior to women.
"machismo" is a bit different: "a strong sense of masculine pride; an exaggerated masculinity" [Merriam-Webster].
Chinese expressions corresponding to machismo include 大男人氣魄 and 男子漢氣概.
These terms represent a kind of *spirit* (氣魄 or 氣概) rather than an *notion* (主義).

To recover the remains of one woman, seven or eight burly IHSART rescuers had to crawl around in a confined space that was crumbling to pieces,

Chu explains that with men generally making more money than women, many people have the misperception that "a real man shouldn't have any problems raising his kids."

But while some fathers stick to the macho ideal of never showing weakness, others, when confronted by the loss of their jobs, partners, or health, also lose their self-esteem.

You are so incredibly shameless. You're a grown man and you have the nerve to ask me for money!

he knew very well that listening to a man rattling on about his wife and kids and dog Snowy was boring.

Editor: Matic's re-wording.

The English expression "burn one's bridges" comes easily to mind, but:
1) in the Chinese expression, the bridge-dismantler goes on to success and the suggestion is that it is his *benefactors* who suffer from the severing of connections
2) in the English expression, there is no suggestion that the benefactors will be any worse off; on the contrary, it is the bridge-burner who later face hard times, and live to regret alienating his past benefactors

Yuan then coerced the parliament into awarding him the presidency, after which he promptly declared the KMT to be a rebellious organization, and "revoked" the powers of office of more than 400 KMT members of parliament.

"If you join up with Acer to conquer the world, and business takes off, in the future I will protect your interests, and Acer will certainly not discard you as no longer useful," Max Hung had told them.

"For instance, Zhang Youyi's older brother Zhang Junmai recommended Xu to the influential writer Liang Qichao, who played a key part in assisting Xu's rise in the literary world. But despite all this help, Xu would burn his bridges behind him and dump Zhang because her traditionalism made her unpresentable within the circles that he traveled."

Editor: Investigation points to the conclusion that whoever wrote about 航空母舰 in the Wikipedia article ("referring to a flat chest") didn't have a clue about it.

---- http://dict.revised.moe.edu.tw

5) wardrobes, even!

[Yes, Yves, I had the same reaction when I saw

Editor: 福壽 is *two* things (happiness and longevity), not *one* thing (a happy long life).

We can't find anything that confirms "breasts". It seems your source is somewhat unreliable, or else 福壽 is a rather *obscure* reference to breasts ("a nice pair", perhaps -- like "happiness and longevity"?).
