<< review queue entry 90104 - submitted by 'aash949' >> Missing phrase, common Chinese translation of よろしくお願いします in anime ----------------- Editor: I'm not convinced that 多多指教 warrants an entry. Its meaning seems to be readily understood from 多多 and 指教, both already in CC-CEDICT. Other points: 1. None of the dozen or so dictionaries I initially checked includes it, although they do include 不吝指教. Wiktionary does have 多多指教, but it's an exception. 2. The suggested English glosses (including Wiktionary's) are problematic. "Please give me your advice and guidance" doesn't fit every context, notably 可得多多指教 (from an example in Wiktionary), while "nice to meet you" and "please treat me well" are contextual translations rather than definitions of the Chinese expression. 3. "Please treat me well" is unnatural English in most contexts where よろしくお願いします is used. It seems to be an attempt to capture the Japanese expression's underlying sentiment rather than give a natural English equivalent of 多多指教. More generally, the use of 多多指教 as a subtitle translation of よろしくお願いします doesn't justify importing the Japanese expression's broader range of meanings into a Chinese dictionary. |
