<< review queue entry 88164 - submitted by 'polaris' >> "divert (money) to other uses"' seems uncommon and does not appear in mainstream dictionaries except ------------------------ Editor: The deleted sense is genuine, but appears to be obsolete and largely associated with land-reform terminology of the late 1940s. For example, a 1948 CCP directive says Contemporary People's Daily usage includes So this sense, roughly "to take (land, property etc) for redistribution or other use", was certainly real. However, the examples I can find are concentrated in the specialized language of land reform around 1948, and the sense is absent from mainstream modern dictionaries. I haven't found comparable modern usage. The previous gloss "to divert (money) to other uses", based on NA's example 「这笔款切勿抽动」, was also too narrow. I think it's better to omit this obsolete sense from CEDICT. |
