<< review queue entry 89087 - submitted by 'adamc' >> I searched the dict and realized nothing comes up when searching in English for "perk" or "perks". The most common and natural equivalent for "perk" or "perks" (especially regarding job benefits, company perks, or extra privileges) is 福利 (fúlì), which translates literally to "well-being and benefit." In professional settings, "employee perks" are referred to as 员工福利 (yuángōng fúlì). -------------- Editor: "perk" can certainly translate 福利 in some contexts, especially in relation to employment, but it's not a close enough match to be a good gloss here. Our aim is to give the best definitions we can of Chinese words, rather than to ensure that particular English words produce useful results when CC-CEDICT is searched in reverse. So I don't think the fact that a search for "perk(s)" doesn't return 福利 is in itself a reason to add those glosses. However, looking at the entry again, I think the existing "material benefit; benefit in kind" can be improved. |
