One of a small batch of missing HSK-syllabus words. ------------------- Editor: I've amended the definition because 新能源 and "renewable energy" are overlapping but distinct categories. A Zhejiang provincial government page defines 新能源 as follows: 新能源是指与常规能源（化石能源、水能等）相对的，以新技术、新材料为基础，（定义时）尚未大规模利用的能源，主要包括太阳能、风能、核能、氢能、生物质能等。 Thus, 新能源 includes nuclear energy, which is not renewable. Conversely, renewable energy includes conventional large-scale hydropower (水电), which is generally not classified as 新能源. Official terminology also distinguishes the categories: the National Energy Administration has a 新能源和可再生能源司. I’ve therefore replaced "renewable energy" with "alternative energy" and added an explanatory parenthesis indicating the intended scope. |
