Extremely common in media and event coverage. ----------------- Editor: Being extremely common isn't in itself a reason for treating a combination as a dictionary headword. Expressions such as 高度重视, 广泛关注, 发挥作用, 取得进展 and 面临挑战 are extremely common, but their meanings can be derived from their components, and dictionaries generally don't include entries for them. The inclusion of 精彩纷呈 in HSK 7-9 doesn't necessarily imply that it warrants a separate dictionary entry. From a pedagogical perspective, it makes sense to teach the whole expression, especially since 纷呈 itself isn't in the HSK vocabulary list. That's a different question from whether a dictionary should include 精彩纷呈 when it already defines both 精彩 and 纷呈 (which we and numerous other dictionaries do). I find no entry for 精彩纷呈 in Wiktionary, New Age, New Century, PLC, GF, Grand Ricci, HDC, Key, LA or MOE. In connection with this, I've submitted to change our definition of 纷呈 to "to appear in profusion; to abound". |
