<< review queue entry 88412 - submitted by 'encn' >> 韩红也是,溥仪这种死人都死多久了,还要专门买他照片摆。有些人生在新中国,却怀念起野猪皮的时代。 ----------------- Editor: 可在讨论中,毛泽东却支持沿用“中华民国”国号,理由是共产党是救中国不是亡中国,新中国取代旧中国是新政府取代旧政府,不是新国家取代旧国家, 为饱受苦难的旧中国带来犹如久旱逢甘霖的希望。 在国民党统治的旧中国,官僚资本控制着整个国家经济的命脉, 鸦片战争后的旧中国,山河破碎,中外混合,各种社会势力大行其道, * * * The asymmetry (uncapitalized "old" but capitalized "New") is deliberate, reflecting the predominant usage in English translations on .gov.cn websites. E.g. > "the Party has united and led the people of all ethnic groups in turning a disintegrated, poor and backward old China into a vigorously developing New China with the people enjoying initial prosperity, ..." > "Seventy-three years ago in 1949, New China was founded, putting an end to an old China of semi-colonial and semi-feudal society, ..." > "New China abolished all unequal treaties and imperialist prerogatives of the old China, ..." I have, however, capitalized the pinyin for both terms because both 新中国 and 旧中国 function as established historical-political terms in Chinese, even though their conventional English renderings differ in capitalization. I do recognize that other dictionaries adopt various other pinyin formats for these terms, including "Xīnzhōngguó" and "xin Zhōngguó". |
