v2 The English verb depends heavily on the object: land: reclaim, develop market: develop, open up route: open, establish field: open up, break new ground in institution: establish That's why I'm reluctant to add "develop" as a separate gloss. It's an excellent translation in some contexts, but so are launch, create, reclaim, build, open, carve out, etc. The dictionary would become unmanageably long if we listed every context-specific translation. |
