<< review queue entry 86370 - submitted by 'encn' >> nonsense 1400 google hits ----------------------- Editor: It appears to be a very rare word, even historically, so I will delete it. However, I don't think it is "nonsense". 汉语大词典 has an entry for 麥耞, defined as 即連枷, and both 枷 and 耞 mean "flail"*, so it makes sense to write the word as either 麥耞 or 麥枷. * 耞 means "flail", and according to my references, 枷 originally also meant "flail" (e.g. in 说文解字, 枷 is defined as 柫, i.e. a flail.) The "cangue" sense is a later development. Similarly, 連耞 and 連枷 are variant forms: https://www.moedict.tw/連枷 But both 麥耞 and 麥枷 seem to be rare, and not worth keeping. |
