However, in modern usage I have found relatively little evidence of 喉管 being used in formal human anatomy specifically for the trachea -- 气管 remains the standard term. Some dictionaries even say "bronchia", a gloss that does not appear to reflect current anatomical terminology. In web usage relating to human health, 喉管 often appears in contexts such as 喉管发炎 or 喉管不舒服, and in at least one surgical narrative it was contrasted with 气管, suggesting reference to the airway in the throat/neck region (laryngeal airway) rather than the entire trachea. "upper part of the trachea" suggests a degree of anatomical precision that is not clearly attested in standard anatomical usage. Wiktionary's "laryngeal portion of the windpipe" is anatomically problematic, since the larynx and the trachea are distinct structures and do not overlap, but it seems to be pointing to the airway at the throat level rather than to a formally defined anatomical subdivision. In animal/food contexts (e.g. 鹅喉管), the term clearly refers to the trachea, which can be understood as the same "airway in the throat" concept applied to a carcass.
