It does not make clear that the verb is transitive, and could easily be interpreted as "to develop or advance oneself". If we were to include a distinct sense, wording that preserves the idea of forceful backing (e.g. "to make a strong push into" or "to throw strong backing behind") would better reflect examples such as 力挺海外市场. 2) No corpus examples were provided beyond dictionary citations. In previous discussions I've asked that new senses be supported by real usage examples where possible. Please consider providing examples of usage more often, in addition to the dictionary quotes you regularly supply. 3) Many dictionaries (ABC, NC, PLC, K, LA etc) do not list this 2nd sense. I have only found it in GF and NA: GF: 努力发展或前进 – 我国客车力挺海外市场 NA: "to do one's best to win; to strive for" ∼单打金牌 Given the limited evidence, I am inclined to regard these "2nd sense examples" as contextual extensions of "to strongly support" rather than a distinct lexical sense. I am leaving the entry as currently defined for now. |
