<< review queue entry 85897 - submitted by 'encn' >> 莲 is the wrong character here, and TCM term needs to be accurate. ------------------- Editor: Yes, 黃蓮 is "wrong", but - it's listed in Grand Ricci and MoE as a variant form - it's in fairly common use (> one-third of the results of the correct form, at least in Taiwan) - in English, you might say "chaise lounge" is "wrong", but Merriam-Webster lists both "chaise longue" and, as an alternative form, "chaise lounge" MoE ~ （歇後語）有苦說不出。「吃」文獻異文作「喫」。《醒世恆言·卷三九·汪大尹火焚寶蓮寺》：「那婦女中識廉恥的，好似啞子喫黃蓮，苦在心頭，不敢告訴丈夫。」《二十年目睹之怪現狀·第九九回》：「自己是個在官人員，家裡出了這個醜事，又不便聲張，真是『啞子吃黃蓮，自家心裡苦。』」也作「啞巴吃黃蓮」。 An example from TP ~ 多數消費者在舉證困難下，只好啞巴吃黃蓮，自己承受損失。 |
