If we list 段 here, consistency would suggest adding it to many other entries as well, since 一段 + N is widely productive. That risks cluttering entries with semi-predictable classifiers and obscuring genuinely lexicalised ones (e.g. 条 for 狗, 本 for 书). It's true that some older entries include broadly productive classifiers of this type, but that may reflect earlier editorial practice rather than a principled policy. Expanding that approach further could reduce the value of classifier information overall. For that reason, I'd prefer not to add CL:段 to 时间. 2) Also, 段 is used with 时间 when it refers to a stretch or period (e.g. 一段时间), not a specific point in time. Associating it with the "(point in) time" sense would therefore be semantically inaccurate, since 段 applies when it's the durational rather than the punctual meaning. |
