More like "people who can be identified as a cyclist" than just "someone who happens to be on a bicycle", so "cyclist" is a bit thin as a def.

Ex. 從快慢車道上分一些面積,也就是設一單車專用道給單車族,也許是個辦法。

Better to define as a group/plural, even though it can be singular in context:
「...」一位跟著基金會跑過許多地方的單車族說。

Trad form is 10x more common according to GV results (170k vs 17k), so (Tw) seems appropriate.
Diff:
- 單車族 单车族 [dan1 che1 zu2] /cyclist/
+ 單車族 单车族 [[dan1che1zu2]] /(Tw) people who ride bicycles regularly; cyclists/
