I believe the standard maritime term is "boat deck" (even though the literal translation "lifeboat deck" isn't actually incorrect.) Perhaps we can say that, in general, we can retain (or add) compositional headwords when doing so helps the user arrive at the correct -- or at least the idiomatic -- English term, rather than a literal translation that may be suboptimal. |
