Editor: The Google figures can't be directly compared since 普林 appears in many words, including transliterations of Pliny, Princeton, Springer, Sao Tome and Principe, and others.

Additionally, AI says:
"普林 is the dominant colloquial term in Taiwan, while 嘌呤 is recognized but reserved for scientific contexts or is identified as the Mainland Chinese usage."
And that's consistent with what I see in my limited checking. For example, 普林 is in LA*, but not in my other dicts.
