"Inland waterway" is a more idiomatic English equivalent and better conveys the concept of 内河. LA ~ 只流經一國境內的河流。 例 「內河運輸」、「內河貨運」、「內河航行權」。 Ex ~ 民國肇始，國民政府積極與西方列強展開廢除不平等條約的交涉。民國十七年（一九二八）首先廢除《中葡北京條約》，另訂《中葡友好通商條約》，澳門問題雖仍懸置，但中華民國仍向葡國爭回「關稅協定權」、「領事裁判權」、「沿海貿易權」、「內河航行權」等，在此次展出中，國民政府廢除不平等條約的交涉歷歷在目。 CG ~ If you asked an English speaker with no Chinese background, “What do you think ‘inland river’ means?”, they’d probably answer something like: - “A river that’s located inland, away from the coast.” - Or more vaguely: “Any river that isn’t near the sea.” - Some might even shrug and say it just sounds redundant, because most rivers are inland anyway. 👉 That’s the problem: “inland river” in English doesn’t have a clear, established technical meaning.
