In various dictionaries I've seen it as "zhǐbuguò", "zhǐbùguò" and "zhǐ buguò". I think I would steer towards "zhǐbùguò", with bu4, like in the Oxford dictionary, and because it's in a fixed expression and followed by a hard stop guo4, and there's no need to drop the tone mark. And also because two separate adverbs, "zhǐ buguò", like in the ABC dictionary, seem redundant to me and an unnecessary split. Also, in the audiobook it's also spoken together, like in one word. ---------------- Editor: I felt it should be all one word, and checked to see if my sources corroborated that. Most of them did. They are split on bu4/bu5. I'll stick with bu5, but not because I think bu4 is wrong. |
