<< review queue entry 82929 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> sai4 and sai1 are possible as mainland pr's, according to Wikt https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E5%A5%A7%E5%A1%9E%E6%A2%AF (and Wikt says se4 is a Tw pr., which certainly seems right to me -- 亞塞拜然共和國, for example uses se4 according to Tw's MoE, and MoE also uses se4 for other place names using 塞, such as 塞內加爾) * * * I don't think Ossetia is a republic. It's a region divided into north and south, the north being a republic, and the south being disputed -- either part of Georgia or a breakaway self-declared independent entity. Wp ~ Ossetia (/ɒˈsɛtiə/ ⓘ o-SET-ee-ə, less common: /ɒˈsiːʃə/ ⓘ o-SEE-shə; Ossetian: Ирыстон or Ир, romanized: Iryston or Ir, pronounced [iˈrəston]) is an ethnolinguistic region on both sides of the Greater Caucasus Mountains, largely inhabited by the Ossetians. The Ossetian language is part of the Eastern Iranian branch of the family of Indo-European languages.[1] Most countries recognize the Ossetian-speaking area south of the main Caucasus ridge as lying within the borders of Georgia, but it has come under the control of the de facto government of the Russian-backed Republic of South Ossetia – the State of Alania.[2][3][4][5] The northern portion of the region consists of the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania within the Russian Federation. |
