I was translating a passage where the "to get" meaning for 得了 was missing in CC CEDICT (which is now my main dictionary), and got this updated definition from ChatGPT.

(pc. thank you for your previous comments and edits, very valuable for me as a new contributor, to align more with the guidelines)

Editor: Thank you for your submission and welcome to CC-CEDICT

The meaning "to contract", "to obtain" etc is really 得 + 了, that is, it's the
definition of 得, and 了 is just a particle to indicate an action is complete.
You can construct this phrase out of nearly every Chinese verb - such as
吃了, 喝了, 走了, 跑了, 成功了, 失败了 etc. We don't want to add these constructs
because it would easily lead to thousands upon thousands of extra entries that
we'd have to maintain for little benefit.

It is sort of like how an English dictionary wouldn't bother writing an entry
for "looked" and "looking", they would list it under "look"
