<< review queue entry 81348 - submitted by 'agedits' >> The pinyin of 可是 can have two forms: [[ke3shi4]] for the conjunction, and [[ke3 shi4]] for use as adverb. Compare this with other adverbs that also follow the separation rule in pinyin: bù shǎo (不少) – quite a lot (not "bùshǎo") hěn hǎo (很好) – very good (not "hěnhǎo") gèng duō (更多) – even more (not "gèngduō") Similarly, kě shì (as an adverb) follows the same pattern. ----------------------- Editor: Various sources disagree on that point. Also, treating 可是 as two words would have the disadvantage that we would have to either split the entry into two entries (可是[[ke3shi4]] and 可是[[ke3 shi4]]) or write an orthographical note, as you did. I'm going to keep it as a single word for both senses. |
