Checked Google, DeepL, Bing, their anthem defaults to 国歌. However, I can't put anthem solely to 国歌 as 校歌 is an anthem too (according to Bing, a school one).

As I checked the meaning of anthem, it is 'a rousing or uplifting song identified with a particular group, body, or cause', it is a type of song. 歌 just may mean song, not necessarily rousing/uplifting; otherwise, sad/melancholic song (悲歌) will be an oxymoron.

This is more of an inquiry (rather than suggestion) on which Chinese word to put (or create) the word anthem if there is a counterpart of anthem in Chinese.

Editor: I don't think any Chinese word exactly matches "anthem" in the sense you quoted.
Diff:
- 歌 歌 [ge1] /song/CL:支[zhi1],首[shou3]/to sing/
# + 歌 歌 [[ge1]] /song (CL:支[zhi1],首[shou3])/anthem/to sing/
#
+ 歌 歌 [[ge1]] /song (CL:首[shou3],支[zhi1])/(bound form) to sing/
