When an earthquake occurs, data from these sensors is analyzed, and if the event is considered serious enough, alerts are generated. Therefore, it's reasonable to translate 地震速報系統 as "Earthquake Early Warning System". However, it's incorrect to assume that 速報 translates directly to "early warning" or "alert." In general, one cannot always equate the components of a Chinese expression with the components of its English translation. For instance, while 日本航空 means "Japan Airlines", it doesn't imply that 航空 equals "airline". Formally, Taiwan's 地震速報系統 is known as the Rapid Earthquake Information Release System* and is commonly referred to as "RTD" (Real Time Digital stream output system). These translations more accurately capture the meaning of 速報, which is better understood as "rapid information release" or "real-time output". For example, agencies publish monthly statistics, known as 統計速報. These are not alerts or breaking news but rather bulletins providing statistical data as soon as possible after the reference month, typically published 45 days later. In general, if you are proposing a definition that isn't in (Chinese) dictionaries, it would be appreciated if you could provide more evidence than you would otherwise. |
