There are many idioms of the form 千X万Y where X and Y mean the same thing, or belong to the same category of things, or have some other relation. And of course the definition of all these terms is just "lots of X and Y" or "countless amounts of X and Y" or something along those lines. I suspect 千经万卷 is one of those. In fact, there are also 千经万典 and 千经万论 which seem to have marginally more usage. We can add the idioms (with some effort), but I don't think we have the ability to add all 千X万Y expressions. Anyways, in my opinion 千经万卷 is a construct, and we should include words of this form if any of the following are true: a) It is an idiom b) It is very commonly used c) It has some kind of significance in Chinese culture, history, language etc I admit it is subjective but I don't believe 千经万卷 fits the case. I am happy to discuss more if you (or anyone else) wants to. Or if I missed something about 千经万卷 please let me know. But for now I will delete this. |
