由於十幾年前所種植的橫山種梨,肉質較粗不討喜,梨農利用橫山梨母樹嫁接日本梨,生產新世紀梨、新興梨、幸水梨、豐水梨等高級梨,俗稱「高接梨」。由於種植過程投入資本大、技術要求高,且需要相當的人工投入,高接梨屬於單價高的水果,過去除了依賴農會運銷外,大部分的銷售都依賴「行口」(果菜大盤商)。
"Because the flesh of the Hengshan pear that was planted a dozen years or so ago is somewhat coarse and not very agreeable, pear farmers now high-graft Japanese pears to the tree to produce new high quality varieties, like New Century, Newcomer, or Lucky Water, popularly known as "gaojie" ("high-grafted") pears. Because cultivating these pears requires a great deal of capital and the latest technology, plus a considerable investment in manpower, gaojie pears have a high unit price. In the past, in addition to relying on the farmers' association to transport and sell the fruit, most of the marketing depended on so-called "jobbers," large-scale wholesalers."
