<< review queue entry 78974 - submitted by 'ivanktw3' >> verb in major dictionaries -------------------------- Editor: It's classified as a noun in one "major dictionary" (New Century). Another one defines it as 1. 指飞机在空中飞行 aviation; air navigation 2. 跟飞机飞行有关的 related to airplanes or air transport No verb sense there either. Yet another dictionary indicates that it's a bound form, i.e. it doesn't have a part-of-speech and is only used to form terms like 航空公司 and 航空業 and 航空交通 (i.e. not a standalone word). KEY classifies it as "n./adv." Grand Ricci gives two senses that indicate the same thing (n./adv.): 1. (Aviation) Navigation aérienne; aviation. 2. (Postes) Par avion; messagerie aérienne. Although it's classified as a verb in PLC, Wiktionary, GF, and New Age, none of them provides an example sentence that has a grammatical subject whose verb is 航空. Does such usage exist? I'm not sure, but it seems to be very marginal, to say the least. |
