Dictionaries say it's the smoked/dark plum, same as 乌梅.

Except LA, which says it's a more general term:
用梅子醃製而成的加工食品。因添加物與醃製方式的差異,有話梅、茶梅、烏梅等各種不同風味的酸梅。

Not specifically umeboshi.
Referred to here as "Japanese-style preserved plum":
日式酸梅umeboshi是一种腌渍过的梅子,非常酸,非常咸,几乎没有甜味,类别属于酸菜而不是蜜饯。
