But both 骐麟 and 骐𬴊 seem to be variants of 麒麟, with 骐𬴊 in addition referring to a horse that can travel a certain distance in a day (which I think can just be translated as a "fine horse") > maybe the giraffe sense should be deleted. Of course nowadays we call a giraffe a 长颈鹿. But I think mentioning giraffe is useful for historical context, and also in case someone is reading or referring to an old text. And for whatever it's worth, 麒麟 is preserved in Japanese as giraffe... though I can't imagine anyone would write 麒麟, they would just write きりん. Anyways, I think marking it with the "(old)" label is good. |
