In ancient times parents gave their baby boys jade ornaments (璋) to play with, while their baby girls got 瓦 (not roof tiles, used to refer to part of a spinning loom).

“哈哈,多谢多谢。”太子满脸笑容,朝张寻真作揖连连,却顾不上看自家老三一眼,便兔子似的冲进了产房。

Editor: Dictionary definitions suggest it's something the *parents* do rather than something the mother does, and in your example, the 太子爷 has not himself given birth.
