<< review queue entry 76004 - submitted by 'encn' >> it's definitely not an idiom, and not a frequently used construct. --------------------------------- Editor: The expression appears in Wu Guanghua, ed. 《汉英大词典》 as 以免藉口 [yǐ miǎn jiè kǒu] remove all causes for a pretext Somebody at ABC, John DeFrancis presumably, copied it (with a couple of errors) as 以免藉口 yǐmiǎnjíkǒu (f.e.) remove sth.that could be used as a pretext with a note "vwu3027a3", which means "see Wu page 3027, column A, 3rd entry". A former CC-CEDICT editor in 2009 copied it from ABC as 以免藉口 以免借口 [yi3 mian3 jie4 kou3] /to remove sth. that could be used as a pretext (idiom)/ * * * It's also in Le Grand Ricci as 以免藉口 [yǐ miǎn jiè kǒu] (loc.) Pour couper court à toute prétexte. "loc." means "locution, expression 詞句". However, I think we can do without the entry. |
