Maybe it's from the chao1 sense of this character which can mean "to grab"? ------------------------------- Editor: 1) Possibly the most common 綽-word is 綽號. Perhaps it should get a mention in the definition of 綽, as it does here: https://www.moedict.tw/%E7%B6%BD 2) > generous/well-off -> maybe this comes from 阔绰? "generous", in this context (followed by "ample" and "wide"), can be taken to mean "larger than the usual size or amount" (i.e. very similar to "ample") rather than "liberal with money".
