<< review queue entry 74149 - submitted by 'kbaiko' >> What is torrent-dash? 滔: https://www.zdic.net/hans/%E6%BB%94, https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%e6%bb%94 滔天: https://www.zdic.net/hans/%E6%BB%94%E5%A4%A9, https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E6%BB%94%E5%A4%A9#Chinese Phrases like 滔天大罪, 万恶滔天, 罪恶滔天 are already in CC-CEDICT ---------------------------------- Editor: The current definition "overflow; torrent-dash" dates back to 1998, when CEDICT began. I'd say it's simply a typo for "overflow; torrent; dash". If you look at a sufficiently comprehensive dictionary, you will find that 滔 had all of those meanings and more. To quote one dictionary: "...; overflow; ... raging torrent; ...; rush forward; race toward; ..." However, we are not trying to be a reference for people who want to know the archaic senses of characters. We generally leave that sort of thing to specialized references, just as we leave most proper nouns to Wikipedia. If you can find contemporary usage of 滔 to mean "arrogant", please include examples in your submission, but don't propose adding senses that you only find in a dictionary, or for which you have no evidence of 20th- or 21st-century usage. * * * A couple of examples for 滔天: - 想通了这些,云惜颜胸中突然爆发出滔天的怒火,... - 江水橫溢,其勢滔天 |
