<< review queue entry 74216 - submitted by 'kbaiko' >> Dictionary has zan3 but not za1 https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%e6%8b%b6 https://www.zdic.net/hans/%E6%8B%B6 ---------------------------------------- Editor: 1) Where possible, please quote the relevant part of a page rather just supplying the URL and relying on us to look through the whole page. For example, as far as I can see, it's only the following part of the zdic webpage that relates to your submission for 拶榨. 拶 zā 〈动〉(1) 逼;挤压 [force;compel]。如:拶拆(挤破);拶拶(拥挤的样子);拶逼(逼迫);拶榨(压榨) (2) 另见 zǎn 2) In zdic, 拶榨 is defined as 压榨, and 压榨 has two senses, defined in zdic as: (a) [squeeze;press]∶挤出汁水或内含物, e.g. 压榨出葡萄汁 (b) [oppress and exploit; bleed white]∶比喻剥削或搜刮 Now, since you propose to define 拶[za1] as "to force; to compel", I wonder why you wouldn't assume it's the 2nd sense (oppress and exploit) that is intended. In any case, it would be helpful if you could provide some examples of usage when submitting a new word, especially if it's a rarely used word or it's a word that many dictionaries don't include an entry for. That's because we need to check the submitted definition. I googled 拶榨 and found this: 她若賣到這種人手裡,他們必拶榨她過量的勞力。 This is not about squeezing juice from grapes! 3) If you can't provide examples of usage, or can only find one or two, it may be best not to submit the word, because in that case, we can't be sure it's a useful word, and also, it's hard to verify the definition. The above example sentence is the *only* one I could find by looking at *all* results displayed by Google for 拶榨. |
