One problem: 核实 can mean "to check; to examine whether something is true or not", whereas "verify" means something different: "to establish the truth of something". In the former case ("核实"), it is not known what the result of checking will be (could be verification but could also be refutation). But in the latter case ("verify"), the result is that the contention is established as true. Consider the following text.
